The turbo is an agent toward higher horsepower output of an engine and is particularly effective in diesel engines.  It is possible to double and triple the total output of a diesel engine using a turbocharger.  Turbos take the excess heat from the engine and transport the energy into combustion chambers, granting a higher output of power, and greater fuel efficiency by using the excess heat.  Industrial turbochargers are constantly fighting the elements of dirt and heat.  There must be a generous flow of clean oil going to the turbo.  Any interruption of that flow will bring problems to the industrial turbo.
